This page provides practical information for commissioners, social workers and healthcare professionals regarding referral criteria, assessment processes and service suitability. Our aim is to ensure placements are carefully assessed, appropriately resourced and sustainable.
Referral & Assessment Process
We take a structured approach to referral review to ensure suitability and placement stability.
Our process includes:
- Initial screening of referral documentation
- Review of risk profile against staffing model
- Consideration of forensic history and safeguarding concerns
- Discussion with commissioners and clinical teams where required
- Clear feedback on suitability and next steps
Round-the-clock care in responsive therapeutic environments. For hospital step-down or continuous 24/7 support needs. Includes Baytree Lodge and Shila House, both CQC Good-rated.


Levels of Support
Baytree provides clearly defined levels of support across North London:
- Registered Residential Care (CQC regulated, 24-hour staffing)
- 24-Hour Supported Living
- 9โ5 Supported Living
- Floating Support

Suitability Criteria
We Typically Support:
- Adults (18+) with enduring mental health needs
- Individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, complex depression/anxiety, OCD and dual diagnoses
- Hospital step-down placements
- Individuals with forensic history (subject to MDT review)
- Individuals requiring structured support and risk management
We Are Not Currently Suitable For:
- Active arson risk
- Unmanaged IV substance use
- Significant nursing-level physical care needs
- Risks that cannot be safely managed within our staffing model
A clear assessment of suitability helps reduce placement breakdown.

We aim to provide a clear and responsive referral process to support timely decision-making.

We welcome both formal referrals and early-stage discussions to explore suitability.

Share Information
To support initial screening please provide:
A summary of current needs and presentation
Relevant risk assessments
Current support arrangements
Recent clinical or MDT reports (where available)
This enables us to assess suitability against the appropriate level of support.

Referral Review
We will respond promptly to:
Confirm receipt
Request any additional information if required
Arrange a discussion, visit or assessment where appropriate
Clear and timely communication remains central to our approach.

Final Step
Once we have carried out our initial assessment we will get back to you with a decision regarding whether we will offer a placement or not, within 24 hours, often on the same day.
Note: We understand the pressures on placement teams, so we aim to keep communication clear, timely and proactive.
